ANERIS Final Workshop: The future of marine monitoring – imaging, AI, and research infrastructures

We are excited to announce the ANERIS Final Workshop, taking place on November 16, 2026, hosted in a hybrid format at VLIZ in Oostende, Belgium (Meeting rooms Pagurus & Homarus) and online.

As the ANERIS project draws to a close, this one-day event will showcase key innovations developed by the project partners to advance ocean observation and biodiversity protection. Through real-world case studies, experts will demonstrate new methodologies and tools - including AI-driven underwater image restoration, automated taxometric and organism identification platforms, and integrated citizen science observatories.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Automated Biodiversity Time Series: Moving from raw imaging data to high-resolution time-series for plankton and macrofauna monitoring.

  • Participatory & Genomic Integration: Combining large-scale citizen science actions (e.g., BioMARathon, MINKA) with imaging and genomic data across coastal ecosystems.

  • Interactive Collaboration: Open discussions and exchange on scaling these tools through research infrastructures for long-term impact.

Event Details:

  • Date & Time: November 16, 2026 | 09:30 – 17:00 CET

  • Location: VLIZ Oostende, Belgium (Hybrid)

  • Registration Deadline: September 30, 2026 (In-person attendance is limited to 40 participants). Register here.

Join us to explore how cutting-edge imaging tools, AI, and community participation are shaping the next generation of marine monitoring.
