ANERIS at the Life Watch ERIC BEeS Conference

04 Jul 2025

ANERIS took part in the LifeWatch ERIC Biodiversity & Ecosystem eScience (BEeS) Conference, which was held in the vibrant city of Heraklion, Crete, between 30 June and 3 July. This key European event brings together researchers, policymakers, and experts to confront the Triple Planetary Crisis — climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, through the power of eScience and collaborative research infrastructures.

ANERIS was promoted at a joint stand with Biodiversity Meets Data, another Horizon Europe project, and Pensoft Publishers, a partnering institution of both projects. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing scientific research and open-access publishing in support of global biodiversity and ecosystem sustainability.

A major highlight of the conference was the presentation by Berta Companys from CSIC, offering an insight into the inner workings of ANERIS. Her talk took the audience on a deep dive into the project’s cutting-edge technologies and workflows designed to improve marine biodiversity monitoring and ecosystem analysis.

Companys addressed the challenges in marine ecosystems monitoring, emphasising the project's approach to tackling data gaps and improving our understanding of the ocean’s complex dynamics. Central to this is the development and implementation of Operational Marine Biology (OMB) data products, which offer practical, scalable solutions for tracking and preserving ocean health.

The BEeS Conference continues to serve as a platform for collaboration and innovation, underscoring the role of European Research Infrastructures in shaping the future of biodiversity science.
