ANERIS held its bi-annual progress meeting on Tuesday (20.05.2025). Consortium members gathered online and updated their colleagues on the developments of their tasks and work packages over the last six months.
Case Study 1, which is focused on high-temporal resolution marine life monitoring in RI observatories, gave an update on the status of two of the test sites, OBSEA Observatory and SmartBay at the Marine Institute, and on the development of the protocols and algorithms for technologies involved in this case study – AIES-MAC, ATIRES, AIES-ZOO, AIES-PHY, and EMUAS – as well as some of the observations made over the last months.
Case Study 2, which concentrates on spatial and temporal resolution of marine life monitoring based on genomics, showcased the workflow for this year, the technologies that are being used, and some updates on the citizen science initiatives, such as the different kits that people are going to be using during the events, the sampling booklet, etc.
Case Study 3, large-scale marine participatory actions (bioblitzes), which centers around citizen science activities, presented the participatory activities that took place from the end of 2024 to 2025 up to this point, and the ones that are planned ahead for this year. The presentation included the participatory technologies: AWIMAR, AMOVALIH, and AMAMER.
Case Study 4, whose aim is to merge imaging and genomic information in different monitoring scenarios, displayed the pros and cons of combining citizen science-generated data with data obtained at the two test sites (OBSEA and SmartBay) via research technologies.
In the meeting, Work Packages 1, 5, and 6 updated colleagues on the work done in the six-month period.
WP5, responsible for the technology integration and validation in large RIs, gave an overview of the progress they've made, budgeting for cloud computing, and improving the cloud resource allocation at CESGA.
WP6, overseeing the exploitation, communication, and networking activities and processes, presented social media analytics, data on the visibility and reach of the project's website and other profiles, newsletters, and so on.
WP1, the coordination team, laid out the completed work related to deliverables and other important documentation, and focused the attention of the attendees on the planned future actions.
ANERIS has reached a phase where the main focus of the collaborative efforts of the consortium partners is on the four case studies. Stay tuned and follow us on X, LinkedIn and Instagram where we’ll share more info on them soon.
