Being halfway through the BioMARatona activity season, this year’s volunteers have already succeeded in collecting over 1000 observations of marine wildlife along the Portuguese coasts. Their captures are proof of the breathtaking diversity that surrounds our beaches.
The BioMARatona 2025 started in May and will continue until 15th October. This initiative is committed to bridging the gap between the academic community and the general public by encouraging participants to document marine species and raise awareness about their preservation. All observations collected are stored and organised in the MINKA platform.
Kudos to all citizen scientists across Portugal who have so far managed, with collective effort, to contribute to this year’s event by sharing knowledge and protecting marine and coastal biodiversity. We encourage all citizens who have still not joined to take part and win one of the three prizes. Follow bioMARatona on Instagram and stay informed about future dates and initiatives.
