Citizen science with teachers and students in Northern Portugal

23 May 2025

ANERIS took part in another interesting citizen science event on 17 March 2025 in Foz, considered as the coastal treasure of Porto. The BIOPOLIS team carried out a student session on the shore, where students exchanged knowledge on safeguarding marine wildlife and conducted biodiversity surveys. The event further showcased another accessible tool, such as MINKA, which is used for biodiversity data collection and storage.

Alongside the student session, another training initiative was organised in Vila do Conde later this month, involving teachers. The BIOPOLIS team of experts took part in the initiative again and supported teachers in documenting observations of an array of marine species along the Northern intertidal coastline of Portugal. The primary goal of such events is to connect the work of scientific researchers to the general public and raise awareness of marine ecosystem conservation and appreciation.
