EMBRC organises a training on the use of genomic technological solutions and research products
As part of the ANERIS project, EMBRC is hosting a dedicated training on the use of genomic technological solutions and research products. The workshop will take place in Crete, Greece, from the 20th to the 22nd of October 2026, where 10 participants will be invited to broaden their operational, end-to-end skills, working closer with experimental designs, laboratory workflows, and bioinformatic analysis aimed at investigating marine biodiversity through genomic applications.
After the three-day event, participants will be able to:
-
Operate and optimise Nanopore-based laboratory workflows (NANOMICS)
-
Design and prepare library pools for Nanopore sequencing
-
Understand and apply Nanopore sequencing from sample to data
-
Perform primary and secondary bioinformatics analyses using SLIM 2.0
-
Integrate and manage genomic data using MARGENODAT
-
Apply workflows (OMB products) to real-world use cases, including:
-
Biodiversity monitoring
-
Detection of invasive species
-
Analysis of intraspecific genetic variation
-
-
Access and exploit OMB products and services via the LifeWatch Virtual Research Environment (LW VRE)
-
Gain practical insight into standardisation, reproducibility, and data interoperability within EMBRC infrastructures
To make the most out of this training course, applicants with the following background will be pursued:
-
Solid basic knowledge of genetics and molecular biology
-
Master’s or PhD students, or laboratory technicians with strong relevant experience
-
Familiarity with sampling and sequencing workflows
To facilitate full engagement throughout the bioinformatics sessions, suggested but not mandatory skills include:
-
Previous exposure to bioinformatics
-
Basic knowledge of operating with Python, such as understanding scripts and simple commands
-
Minimum familiarity with computational environments
Although the training is free and lunch will be provided during the training days, it is still important to note that participants are self-funded, meaning that each is responsible for covering their own expenses, including accommodation, travel arrangements, and any additional meals or personal costs.
Those who express a desire to participate are welcome to apply due 30.03 under the following link.
