The 30th and 31st of May, 2023 marked an important event as ANERIS held its first WP2 workshop at VLIZ headquarters in Ostend, Belgium. The partners from HCMR, LifeWatch, BIOPOLIS, VLIZ and EMBRC covered the necessary steps and methodology for obtaining genomic information using nanopore sequencing. This included discussions regarding sampling designs, lab protocols for DNA extraction, as well as bioinformatic pipelines. 

Attention was given to the main challenges related with nanopore sequencing, the current state-of-the-art technologies, as well as to what the way forward is in terms of collaboration, co-design and communication between partners. 

The consortium was also joined by guests from the Open Science and EurOBIS teams at VLIZ to discuss data archiving and other matters related to the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse (FAIR) principles of data management.
