ANERIS, in collaboration with various projects such as GES4SEAS, OBAMA-NEXT, GuardIAS, BioBoost+, and POMP, is organising the 21st edition of the AZTI Summer School. This year’s theme is "Artificial Intelligence and Citizen Science in Monitoring and Assessing Biodiversity and Invasive Species at Sea." The event will span three days, 3 - 5th June 2025 and will be held at the Aquarium de Donostia-San Sebastián (Spain).
The 2025 Summer School will focus on showcasing different methods for monitoring and assessing biodiversity. It will highlight how artificial intelligence and citizen science are valuable tools in early-warning systems for detecting invasive species occurrences and the problems they cause. Scientists from different projects will share their insights and experiences in this field of work.
The topic of this year’s edition of AZTI Summer School is currently relevant as several policies and directives (the Water Framework Directive, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the Habitats and Birds Directives, the Biodiversity Strategy, and the Nature Conservation Act) mandate the monitoring and assessment of marine waters across Europe.
This course is open to early-career scientists, senior scientists seeking new knowledge, as well as managers and policymakers interested in discussing this crucial topic together.
