Despite significant achievements in automated analysis of phytoplankton images in the last two decades, much work in phytoplankton monitoring still remains in the form of conventional, labour-intensive and time consuming microscope analysis.

To remedy this, ANERIS will develop an semi-automatic pipeline to extract information for phytoplankton images. It will optimise all steps of the process, focusing on sampling, imaging, analysis, and data flow.

Currently, AIES-PHY is focused on exploring automated extraction of images from raw CytoSense runs, setting up real-time sampling metadata extraction & processing, and exporting to standardized output formats for database upload.
